April 2004 - Kathryn is honored for the second time with the 2003 Yacht Racing Union of Southern California's Yachtswoman Excellence Award.

In 1999 Kathryn was blown away when she found out she had won this prestigious award. She read the notification letter, then called the committee to be sure they didn't put someone else's letter in her envelope! The committee laughingly said, "No, you received the correct letter, congratulations!"

To receive it again was, she said, just beyond belief! If you were to look at the placques of past winners, you would note a Southern California "hall of fame" lisiting of women sailors, Olympian J.J. Isler among them. Those in the know, Kathryn jokingly noted, would point at the names with enthusiam. "Ohh, look who's here....Ohh, and see here..." Then, when they would see her name they would say..."Who the H>>L is THAT?"

All joking aside, The Yacht Racing Union of Southern California (YRUSC) is a racing association of 31 Southern California Yacht Clubs. YRUSC awards ten Perpetual Trophies each year. Two are for match racing, one is for youth racing and three are for ocean racing. The other four honors outstanding individuals for their excellent performance.
